Face the Future

Fifty years after its foundation, the EU faces new challenges.

The Green 10 believes that to support quality of life in Europe and beyond, and to achieve security, prosperity, solidarity and peace, the EU needs to...

Improve energy and resource efficiency and build renewable energy systems. This will:

  • tackle climate change and ecosystem degradation.
  • provide an innovative model for other regions of the world and competitive advantages to the EU.
  • permit job creation and cost reduction for business over the long term, which will justify the innovation and investment required.
  • enable our health to improve as environment-related diseases (asthma, allergies, cancer) decline.
  • reduce competition for natural resources, giving developing countries a better chance to develop in a sustainable way.

Protect and invest in ecosystems that support biodiversity:

  • to support our very existence, which relies on the vast and complex range of animal and plant life that make up our ecosystem - from bees that pollinate crops and wetlands that reduce flooding to wild stocks of fish, the air we breathe and water we drink.
  • to enhance the prosperity of rural areas within and outside Europe, address poverty and mass migration, and ensure a freshwater supply for everyone.
  • to provide jobs and health benefits linked to well-functioning ecosystems.
  • to safeguard the diversity of life for our children and grandchildren.
